Does a split change what your shares are worth?
No. A 3-for-1 split gives you three shares for each one, each worth a third as much. What changes is the price per share, which makes the stock easier to buy in whole shares and to trade options on. Splits often come after a big run-up, and stocks sometimes rise around the announcement, but the split itself adds no value.
Will Tesla split its stock again?
Tesla hasn’t announced another split as of October 2026. Its earlier splits came when the shares were near $2,000 (2020) and $900 (2022); today they’re at $386.40, and fractional shares mean small investors can buy any amount anyway. A split would need board approval and, as in 2022, possibly a shareholder vote.
Why old charts show low prices
Charts and data sites adjust past prices for splits so the history lines up: Tesla’s $17 IPO price shows as about $1.13. To see an old price as it was, multiply by 15 before August 31, 2020, or by 3 between then and August 25, 2022.
