TL;DR
- No. The NYSE and Nasdaq are closed on Good Friday. The next one is Friday, March 26, 2027.
- The bond market is usually closed too, though it has opened for a short session when the jobs report fell on Good Friday.
- Most CME futures are closed, forex is thin, and crypto trades as usual. Banks and the post office stay open; it isn’t a federal holiday.
- LemonTrades keeps reading the news on holidays and tells you what will move your markets when they reopen.
Good Friday is the one US market holiday that isn’t a federal holiday, which is why it catches people out every spring.
Is the stock market open on Good Friday?
No. The New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq close for the whole day on Good Friday, the Friday before Easter. Trading ends at the usual 4:00 PM ET on Thursday and resumes at 9:30 AM ET on Monday. There’s no pre-market or after-hours session that day. Easter Monday is a normal trading day in the US, though most European markets are closed.

What if the jobs report is on Good Friday?
The monthly US jobs report usually comes out on the first Friday of the month, and every few years that’s Good Friday. When it is, the Labor Department still releases it at 8:30 AM ET, with stocks closed. The reaction then shows up in the few markets trading that morning, then in stocks on Monday morning. In 2027 the March jobs report is due a week later, on April 2. Dates on the job report today.
Why the market closes when banks don’t
Federal holidays are set by Congress; stock market holidays are set by the exchanges. NYSE has closed on Good Friday nearly every year for more than a century, by its own tradition, and Nasdaq follows the same calendar. Bond markets follow SIFMA, the bond industry group, which usually recommends a close too.
The rest of the market holidays
All of 2026 and 2027, with early closes, are in how many trading days are in a year. The next one is Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and for any given day, see is the stock market open today.
