TL;DR
- Nvidia has split its stock six times, most recently 10-for-1 on June 10, 2024. One share bought at the 1999 IPO is now 480 shares.
- $1,000 at the $12 IPO price bought about 83 shares; after the splits that’s 40,000 shares, worth the live figure below.
- A split doesn’t change what your stake is worth; it just cuts the price per share. No new split has been announced.

Nvidia’s stock has risen so far that it has had to split again and again to keep the share price within reach. Here’s every split, and what they add up to.
Nvidia stock split history
| Split-adjusted trading began | Ratio | Shares from one IPO share |
|---|---|---|
| June 27, 2000 | 2-for-1 | 2 |
| September 2001 | 2-for-1 | 4 |
| April 7, 2006 | 2-for-1 | 8 |
| September 11, 2007 | 3-for-2 | 12 |
| July 20, 2021 | 4-for-1 | 48 |
| June 10, 2024 | 10-for-1 | 480 |
So Nvidia’s $12 IPO price on January 22, 1999 works out to 2.5 cents a share in today’s terms, which is why long-term charts start near zero.
The 2024 split
Nvidia announced the 10-for-1 split on May 22, 2024, with its quarterly results, when the stock traded above $1,000. Shareholders got nine extra shares for each one after the close on June 7, and the stock opened on June 10 at about a tenth of its old price. Later that year it replaced Intel in the Dow Jones Industrial Average, where a lower share price matters because the Dow is weighted by price. See the 30 Dow stocks.
What a stock split does
A split gives you more shares at a lower price, with the same total value: 1 share at $1,200 becomes 10 shares at $120. Nothing about the company changes. Companies split to make shares easier to buy and to give to employees; with fractional shares at most brokers, the price matters less than it did. The opposite, merging shares to raise the price, is a reverse stock split.
Will Nvidia split again?
Nvidia hasn’t announced another split. Its last two came when the stock traded above $700 and $1,000; it’s far below that now, so another split looks unlikely soon. Nvidia has announced its splits alongside quarterly results, so the next report is the moment to watch. It returns cash in other ways: in May 2026 it raised its dividend 25-fold and added $80 billion of buybacks. See Nvidia’s dividend.
